Dodgers News: Miguel Rojas Defends Former Teammate Yasiel Puig After Latest Brawl
Former Dodgers fan favorite Yasiel Puig got caught up in headlines again when he was involved in a brawl in the Venezuelan Winter League.
Puig was struck in the face as he tried to play peacemaker, but that didn’t stop the Internet from calling the 33-year-old out for his behavior.
In the midst of an MLB comeback attempt, Puig took to social media to make it clear he had done nothing wrong in the fight. And a former teammate of Puig’s, current Dodger infielder Miguel Rojas, defended the Cuban outfielder in an interview with the Chris Rose Rotation.
“When the headlines are ‘Puig in another fight,’ it’s wrong. I played with Puig this year, and I know he’s trying to get better and he’s seeking for a new opportunity to play in the big leagues.”

While Puig has a history of getting involved in non-baseball issues, he is certainly being more careful of his public perception. In this instance, he was apparenty trying to make peace amid a brawl, but got caught in the middle of it and took a hit to the face.
Puig last played in the majors in 2019 with the Cincinnati Reds. He was traded to Cincinnati from Cleveland after spending the first six years of his career with the Dodgers.
This offseason, he’s been playing in the Venezuelan Winter League, and his Tiburones de La Guaira team just won the championship.
Puig was absolutely dominant in 26 games, slashing .418/.518/.846 with 10 home runs and 23 runs batted in.
Earlier this offseason, it was reported that MLB teams were showing interest in Puig. But nothing has come out of it yet.
