Dodgers News: Miguel Vargas Selected as Minor League Player of the Year
The Dodgers have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball. The second best to be exact, according to MLB.com.
And LA has it all, catcher Diego Cartaya, pitcher Bobby Miller, and other great young prospects in Michael Busch and Andy Pages, However, one top prospect in the Dodgers organization was turning heads this season and even earned himself a major award.
Miguel Vargas was named the Dodgers 2022 Minor League Player of the year. In a season where big things were expected from Vargas, he balled out and delivered for the team.
The 22-year-old was killing it for the Dodgers Triple-A affiliates, in 438 AB’s he slashed .304//404/.511 with an .915 OPS while hitting 17 HR’s and 83 RBI’s.
Even though he was incredible in Triple-A that hasn’t really replicated in the big leagues. However, this is a minor league award and there is no question he deserved to take home that award.
The Cuban has had his fair share of at-bats in Dodger blue and even though he won’t make the postseason roster you better believe he is the future for LA.
Vargas represented the Dodgers in the future’s All-Star game back in mid-July that was held at Dodger Stadium alongside Cartaya and Miller who started in that game. He is a versatile player and it is hard to say what will be his primary position at the moment.
Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come for the Dodgers number 3 overall prospect. Congratulations, Miguel!
