Dodgers News: Mookie Betts is Making a Serious MVP Case

Markus Lynn Betts, better known as Mookie Betts, is a remarkable baseball player and is making a case that he should be the National League MVP.

If Betts earns the prestigious award at the end of this season, he will be the second major leaguer to win the MVP award in both the American League and National League. Frank Robinson won the National League MVP as a member of the Cincinnati Reds in 1961 and the American League MVP as a member of the Baltimore Orioles in 1966.

Betts won the 2018 American League MVP as a member of the Boston Red Sox.

This season is Betts’ best performance as a Dodger. His batting average of .312 is fifth-highest in the National League. His 35 home runs are tied for fourth in the league, and his .406 on-base percentage is third. His .606 slugging percentage and 1.012 OPS lead the National League.

Betts has scored 110 runs, the second-highest in the National League, and his 93 RBIs are the third most. He also leads the National League in both fWAR and bWAR, and only trails Shohei Ohtani in both categories.

Since the Dodgers needed versatility, Betts has played in right field and at second base and shortstop at an elite level. He deserves a Platinum Glove for his play around the diamond this season.

Without Betts at the top of their lineup, the Dodgers would not be where they are today. With him, they are almost assured their 10th National League West division title in 11 seasons. Betts deserves the National League MVP. And suddenly, he’s the favorite to win it.
