Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Joins Exclusive List With Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig After Dominant August

When the Dodgers traded for All-Star and MVP Mookie Betts, they knew that they were getting one of the best players in the entire league. LA was ecstatic when the Boston Red Sox agreed to the trade, and they quickly re-signed him up for the foreseeable future with a new contract.

Since he arrived in Los Angeles, Betts has been everything and more for the organization. He helped them break their long-time World Series drought and has been the face of the franchise at every step.

He is currently in the midst of his best season with the team and possibly the best season of his career. Many didn’t think that he could top his 2018 season, where he won the American League MVP, but Betts continues to get better each year.

Right now, he is the current favorite for the National League MVP award this season and just wrapped up one of the most impressive months in recent memory. According to ESPN Stats and Info, Betts joined some elite company in baseball history.

“He’s the 3rd player since 1900 to have a .450 average with 50 hits and 10 HR in a single month, joining Babe Ruth (July 1923-24) and Lou Gehrig (June 1930).”

Per ESPN Stats & Info

He hit 455/.516/.839 with 11 home runs and 30 runs batted in over the month of August. He also contributed 51 hits as well, a Los Angeles Dodgers franchise record.

Betts was the driving force to the overall success that the Dodgers saw this past month. On the season, he is hitting .317 with 38 home runs and 98 runs batted in.

The consistency of Betts all season has been the best part of his insane year. Every star player can put together a strong few weeks, but Betts has done it all year long.

He looks like he is on a mission this season, and the Dodgers are quite thankful that he is a member of their organization. They will continue to rely on their All-Star down the stretch of the season, as he continues his chase for the MVP award.

Betts and the Dodgers continue their series against the Atlanta Braves this weekend before they head out on a road trip that sees them head to Miami and the Nation’s Capital.
