Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Shades Padres Amid Rough Season

It was supposed to be a step-back type of season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. They were supposed to have fallen off a bit from years past due to the level of talent that they lost in the offseason. However, it seems that LA missed the memo.

While the team has seen its fair share of uncharacteristic struggles this year, the Dodgers are still one of the best clubs in baseball. They have relied upon guys that not many saw coming, and have used it to their advantage.

In what was supposed to be a down year, it has become one of the most fun seasons in a while. They stood quiet while others around them talked a big game, only to let fate dictate things.

“Hey, you go to do what you’ve got to do,” Dodgers star Mookie Betts told USA TODAY Sports. “If that’s how you pump yourself, do it, by all means. For us, that’s not just the way we operate. We operate in a different fashion.”

Per USA Today

Betts wasn’t directed talking about any one team likely, but you can probably infer that he means the San Diego Padres or even the New York Mets. Both of them spoke a ton of trash leading up to the season and now both are in the midst of poor years.

In the end, it really is about the play on the field, not what is on paper. The Dodgers themselves saw that last year after being so dominant in the regular season, only to be eliminated in the NLDS.

“So, it’s like, you can talk all you want, say all you want, but nobody what is being said, you’ve still got to go play the game. In between the lines is what’s going to dictate the outcome.”

Per USA Today

LA has been decimated with injuries all season long but has found ways to persevere. Their pitching, normally a strength, has been a weakness, and they have had to win games despite it.

This team has chemistry unlike we’ve seen in previous years. It even led manager Dave Roberts to make a bold statement about his club.

“This is my favorite team I’ve ever had,” says manager Dave Roberts, who has led the Dodgers to a World Series title, three pennants, six division titles and seven playoff berths while posting the greatest winning percentage of any manager in Dodger history.”

Per USA Today

LA continues to show why they are one of the better organizations in all of baseball. The culture they have built is strong, and it has been especially apparent this season.

They look like a scary team right now, and if they continue to move forward, they could be a tough out come playoff time. The entire organization deserves its flowers for this season, and the fans are thankful as well.

The Dodgers continue their season as they welcome in the Milwaukee Brewers for a few games, continuing their long homestand.

  1. Betts, threw no shade. The article even says as much and then makes a statement that he was probably referring to the Padres and Yankees. Click bait headline…poor journalism… what should I expect in this day and age! 🙁

  2. Unrelated topic; I was watching Baseball tonight clip on ” who’s gonna win Cy Young this year”. I got excited like I always do, then was like ” HEY (!!) where r the Dodgers”!? Then instantly hit me – ” oh yeah, we’ve got nobody this year”. First time in a long time we’ve havent had a rep in this topic of conversation. Lol. Kershaw is still a top 5 candidate, but only if he plays out. And can nab ERA title and 16-5 record. Along with Dodgers having best NL record, and Win WS, does he have chance at top 3. Yeah yeah, yeah, I know, ” regular season only” counts, but that’s not always the case!
