Dodgers News: RHP Andre Jackson Traded to Pirates

The Andre Jackson era in Los Angeles is over. Last week, the Dodgers designated the right-handed pitcher for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster for reliever Ryan Brasier. While in DFA limbo, the Pittsburgh Pirates swung a trade for Jackson in exchange for cash.

Jackson struggled over 7 games this season, allowing 13 runs in 17.2 innings (6.62 ERA). He’s been better in small samples in the past (2.11 ERA in 7 games from 2021-2022) and hopefully gets things on track in his career with Pittsburgh.

For long time Dodgers fans, you might get a bit of deja vu and think of another LA pitching prospect that didn’t quite work out and was picked up by the Pirates, RHP James McDonald. Did this line need to be in this article? No. But it’s there and we’re just dealing with that now.

The Dodgers were caught between a rock and a hard place with Jackson. He’d already been optioned to the minor leagues four times this season which means that the next time LA brought him up to the big leagues, he’d need to remain there or they’d risk losing him for nothing on waivers thanks to a newer minor league options rule.
