Dodgers News: Ryan Pepiot ‘Making Good Claim’ to Pitch in Postseason, Says Dave Roberts

As the playoffs get ready to start soon, the Dodgers are still trying to put together their starting rotation. They have seen a normal strength of theirs dwindle, and will now be relying on multiple young pitchers in the playoffs.

One of those is Ryan Pepiot, who missed the majority of the season due to an oblique injury. But since he has returned, he has looked dominant for this team.

Pepiot made the Opening Day roster as a starter before getting hurt in Spring Training, something that many people forgot. But he has shown that LA giving him that role earlier in the year was completely justified.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke about Pepiot and gave an update on his status for the postseason.

“He’s making a good claim,” Roberts said. “He’s open to whatever we need and his part of the deal is he’s got to go out there and pitch well. And he’s holding up his end of the deal.”

Per The OC Register

On the year, Pepiot has appeared in six games — three of them as a starter and three of them as a bulk guy. He holds an ERA of 1.91 over 33 innings of work.

His command issues from last season are looking like a thing of the past, which has really helped him be effective this season. This was one of the biggest things that LA wanted to see from him this year, and so far, he looks to have made a major improvement.

Pepiot has earned the trust of Roberts with his performance so far, so he will likely be given some long inning roles in the postseason. This is where he will make his claim for this team, and he looks ready to foot the bill.

If he can produce the way that he has, LA will be in solid shape. They are going to need him to really step up in the playoffs, and help them get through the different situations that he is put in.

He has solid stuff on the mound and now is being given the chance that he has always wanted. It’s up to him to continue making the most of the opportunity, and if he does, he will be a mainstay on the big league team in the future.
