Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow’s Big Offseason Change Already Seems to Be Paying Off

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow is determined to pitch in the postseason. In 2024, Glasnow was poised to lead the starting rotation in October, but was ultimately sidelined by a sprained elbow.

This spring, Glasnow arrived at Camelback Ranch with one goal mind: Staying healthy. In an effort to reach that goal in 2025, the right-hander tweaked how he leverages his 6-foot-8 frame down the mound and where he’s positioned when his front foot plants before he throws a pitch.

Glasnow made his first start of the 2025 season at the end of March against the Atlanta Braves. He pitched five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks while fanning eight. Glasnow’s performance helped the Dodgers earn a 6-1 win.

“I think it’s the least I’ve thought mechanically in a long time,” he said afterward. “I feel athletic and free and good.”

Manager Dave Roberts spoke about the challenges Glasnow faced with his mechanics, and how he was hoping to evade those bumps this season.

“I think with Tyler, my opinion is he gets too mechanical at times and not let his natural athleticism and compete kind of drive his outing,” Roberts said. “I think this spring, that’s where he’s been. He’s freed himself up a lot more this spring.”

When Glasnow was put to the test in his season debut, it was evident the changes he made at camp paid dividends.

Glasnow, 31, produced a 3.49 ERA and a 9-6 record in his first season wearing Dodger blue. He threw a career-high 168 strikeouts across 134 innings. It was exactly the type of performance the Dodgers had hoped for when they traded for him and spent $136.5 million on an extension in December 2023.

In 2025, Glasnow hopes to replicate another stellar performance, not only in the regular season but also in October.

  1. The Factor has ID’d Max Muncy and Andy Pages as players who should not be in the Dodgers starting lineup. Muncy is a mediocre to poor 3rd baseman, can’t hit his weight, and exept for an occasional Dinger, is a strikeout waiting to happen. Pages has no place in this lineup, especially in center field. He’s now 1-19 and is butchering balls hit right at him. Like Muncy, replace/trade him. Championship teams do NOT have players who cannot at least field their position. Muncy and Pages should be moved for better, more talented players. We’ve been saying, GET ARENADO! What an upgrade at 3rd base that would be! His range and experience as an 10X Gold Glover, would also help Mookie Betts by cutting off balls, and protecting the 6 hole from Betts’ lack of tools to make the play from deep in the hole. Let’s face it folks, Betts is trying but doesn’t have the physical goods that are desired, and needed from, a top notch shortstop. Trust us, if he wasn’t Mookie Betts, he would NOT be playing shortstop! Which brings us to the gangly, Ostrich-lilke, Tyler Glasnow. We’ve heard his explanations (excuses) for his limited, injury-ridden performance last year, and previous years with TBay, and today a little mud on his cleats in Philly gave us confirmation and insight into his fragile inner makeup. Rain, mud in his cleats, slipping o the mound, seemed to totally threw him off his game. So WHY didn’t he, or genius Dave Roberts, call time in the rain, and ask for diamond dust rosin to be sprinkled on the mound, as well as putting the ‘cleat cleaner mat’ behind the mound? Funny, the Phils ground crew did exactly that after they blew up touchy touchy, sensitive Tyler, for 6 runs (5 charged to him) in the 3rd inning. We’ve been watching this Prima Dona since he joined LA last year, and he’s the a poster child for the typical LA SOFT, mama’s boy! Not only LA SOFT, but LA P_ _ _ Y SOFT who wants everything to be perfect! IF a little rain and mud can throw him off his game, why would the Dodgers want to trust him to win a MUST WIN game under intense game pressure, rain or shine? We’ve seen Glasnow’s undependable pitching act going on 2 years, with him pitching just 135 innings last year. He averaged ONLY 120 innings per year with Tampa Bay, and, after today’s performance, we wonder if he’s got a Bob Gibson, ‘tough and nasty.’ attitude for us to change our opinion of him? After today, not even close!

    1. Glasnow is made of glass. Very fragile body and psyche. He has been a disappointment so far.
