There hasn’t been a dull moment with Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and this afternoon’s benching will continue to create a circus around the star outfielder.
Puig was surprisingly taken out of the game in favor of Skip Schumaker in the fifth inning and without any trainers surrounding him, didn’t make much sense at first.
However, it sounds like Puig understood the decision and supported it according to Beto Duran of ESPNLA.com:
Puig “i wasnt preparing properly in outfield and was good decision take me out”

After the game, Mattingly brought Puig into his office and Dodgers starter Ricky Nolasco said that his actions were unacceptable. With an off-day tomorrow, Puig should be in the starting lineup on Friday.
This is the second time Puig has been in the thick of a controversy as he was fined for arriving late to the ballpark in Miami. Things got out of hand because he was given a scheduled day off, but it was interpreted as Mattingly benching Puig for his base running and defensive mistakes.
Puig has talked about the difficulty in adjusting to life in the big leagues, but every time he’s disciplined, it’s sure to cause a media firestorm. Veterans Adrian Gonzalez, Juan Uribe and Hanley Ramirez have helped Puig thus far and they’ll be sure to talk to him about changing his attitude.
