Dodgers Notes: 5 Reasons LA Will Sign Shohei Ohtani, Nolan Arenado Update, GM Meetings Nothingburger
With the MLB General Managers Meetings now behind us, the next big week on the baseball calendar is the Winter Meetings in December. The four day event will be held in Nashville, Tennessee this year and figures to set the offseason hot stove ablaze before things settle down into the holiday season.
The hottest name at those meetings will certainly be Shohei Ohtani’s. He’s expected to sign with a team before the end of the event but some reports say that the possibility of a deal getting done could even happen before then.
The Dodgers continue to be the team most often linked to the soon-to-be two-time AL MVP. MLB.com writer Thomas Harrigan shared his top 5 reasons the Dodgers make sense for Shohei with the Hollywood lifestyle atop his list. Beyond that, LA’s consistent dominance in the NL West means more opportunities in the postseason for Ohtani, something he desperately craves as Jon Morosi noted here.
> MLB insider Ken Rosenthal shared a bit of insight on the trade situation involving the St. Louis Cardinals and star third baseman Nolan Arenado. The Dodgers’ interest in Arenado has been well documented over the years. Still, the expectation is that St. Louis will be dedicated to returning to the playoffs in 2024.
Meaning that “the Cardinals aren’t trading Nolan Arenado,” as Rosenthal said on his Foul Territory show.
As much as Dodgers fans want Nolan to come home, that dream is looking like it may never come true.
> One final note from last week’s GM meetings. Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes joined Brian Kenny on MLB Network where he gave the host a vintage Dodger Nothingburger… As in he said a lot of words without really saying anything at all.
You can watch that here and enjoy when Kenny even had to chuckle at the end.
Andrew Friedman should be proud of his apprentice.

You can list the reasons all you want, but neither you or I really know what will happen. The certainty of Ohtani in a Dodger uniform is far from certain.
