Dodgers Notes: Blockbuster Trade Shakes Up Seoul Series, NL West; Two Ailing Stars Will Be On Flight

The Dodgers’ traveling party and pitching plans for Thursday’s voyage to South Korea to kick off the 2024 regular season are looking set. The San Diego Padres can’t say the same.

On Wednesday, the Padres executed a blockbuster trade by acquiring Chicago White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease in exchange for four prospects. Cease, a Los Angeles native, was reportedly targeted by the Dodgers (among other teams) early in the offseason but appeared likely to stay put on the South Side.

That all changed yesterday, and now the Padres are planning to meet their new teammate in Korea. Will Cease pitch in the Seoul Series against the Dodgers? His last Cactus League start was on Tuesday. There’s a long layoff between now and the March 20-21 games at Gocheok Sky Dome, but no official announcements have been made.

Meanwhile, the Cactus League season is over. The Dodgers leave Arizona with a 13-5-1 record following an 8-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

  1. Cease? Good pitcher, but no biggee. Our Dodgers have to be ready to face elite pitching throughout the WESTern division period, with maybe an exception in Colorado, although they have played real well in ST. This division is going to be a dogfight and my personal feeling is that the DBAGs are the team to beat. They have rock steady pitching, none better in the West, and hungry, athletic players that energize their team. As for Yamamoto…’ho hum’.

  2. Who did the Padres give up? How high up were they rated? That is two potential starters (Burnes is the other one) that it seems the Dodgers could have traded for without giving up anyone likely to be on the 26-man roster.

  3. The Honeymooner’s with Gleason was the best. One of these days Alice , pow right in the kisser!!
