Dodgers Notes: LA Cuts Pitcher, Max Scherzer Signs, Blockbuster Trade Proposal With Astros
The Los Angeles Dodgers designated right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier for assignment on Thursday to make room for new reliever Kirby Yates.
Despite him being DFA’d, the Dodgers still have 10 days to try to trade him. One trade proposal has him being dealt to the Houston Astros.
In other free agency news, former Dodgers pitcher Max Scherzer signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Dodgers had reportedly shown interest in the veteran this winter. Scherzer was one of many starting pitchers still on the market.
And finally, the defending champions have added several stars during the offseason, but MLB’s next up and coming star could come from the Dodgers’ farm system. ESPN MLB insider Kiley McDaniel compared one of the Dodgers’ top prospects to three-time American League All-Star Yordan Alvarez.

Dodgers Video of the Day:
Why not wait to sign Yates for 12 more days, then put several pitchers on the 60 day DL, then see who is healthy in Spring Training? Wouldn’t Yates wait 12 more days on an oral agreement that he would be given the contract on Feb. 11? Brazier was great in 2023 and good in 2024. Why be in a position of trading players who are in DFA mode? I did not like the signing of Kim and the corresponding trade of Lux from a position of weakness, either. There is still one player to trade for — Luis Robert, Jr. After Feb. 11 sign Kike Hernandez to platoon with Muncy. 40 starts in 2025 for Kike against left hand starters. Money off the books after 2025 season — Taylor $15M, Conforto $13M, Muncy $13M, Brazier $4M Rojas $5 = $50M. Lux is also gone.
