Dodgers Postgame: Dodgers Win Second Straight Over Padres to Open Cactus League

The Los Angeles Dodgers gave the home crowd of 11,623 at Camelback Ranch something to cheer about when they beat their National League West foe San Diego 4-1 on Friday afternoon.

Freddie Freeman homered on the first pitch he saw and finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs. His sacrifice fly in the fifth inning gave the Dodgers an insurance run that extended the lead to 3-1 and was much needed before the Dodgers pulled their starters.

Landon Knack was impressive in his first start of spring training. He pitched two innings of scoreless baseball striking out four Padres and only needed 15 pitches to record six outs.

The final run of the game came off the bat of Chris Okey, who signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in early January, in the bottom of the seventh. He was 1-for-1 in his spring training debut with an RBI.

Overall, eight Dodgers recorded a hit and Miguel Vargas was the only one to have a multi-hit performance. He was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. He also made a sliding catch in left field that made him look like he’s been an outfielder his entire career instead of learning the position ahead of this season.

Here are some key highlights from the game:

Los Angeles is off to a 2-0 start to begin Cactus League with back-to-back wins against the Padres. The two teams won’t meet again until they open the regular season next month in Seoul, South Korea.

Up next is a date with the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday at Tempe Diablo Stadium at 12:10 p.m. PT.
