The Boys in Blue currently share the top spot in the NL West with the Arizona Diamondbacks, each sporting a .593 win percentage. The division has once again proved to be one of the toughest in baseball, with three teams at or above .500 — and with the Padres having not yet reached their full potential as a threat in the West.
Offensively, the Dodgers have been on fire. First basemen Freddie Freeman has been having an MVP-caliber start to the season with a .336 batting average, 10 home runs and an OPS of .975, good for third in the league. Max Muncy has drastically improved his production from last season, and with 18 home runs has almost surpassed the 21 he brought in last year. The offseason signing of J.D. Martinez is proving to be a home run in the designated hitter spot, sporting a .612 slugging percentage to go with 13 homers.
While there have been some concerns at the starting pitching role, particularly with Noah Syndergaard and his 6.54 ERA, the Dodgers are still in a prime position to win the NL West and make some noise come playoff time. The Dodgers remain a heavy favorite to win the division, signaling that Vegas believes they will begin to separate from the Diamondbacks as the season progresses.
