The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting set for a three-game series with the New York Yankees this weekend. The starting rotation is set for this series, however, there were many question marks regarding the Dodgers’ rotation for the following series against the Cincinnati Reds.
The Dodgers had a day off on Thursday and have another one on Monday, so technically, they could have skipped a start in their rotation. If they decided to do that, the likely candidate to have his start skipped would have been the struggling Noah Syndergaard.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was asked about that spot in the rotation ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Yankees, though, and shut down any rumors of a potential skipped start. He confirmed that Syndergaard would be starting his next scheduled game, which is Wednesday in Cincinnati.https://twitter.com/juanctoribio/status/1664769362471862272
Roberts did say that the Dodgers looked at other potential options, but ultimately felt that going with Syndergaard made the most sense at this juncture.
“We’re just trying to continue to bet on him,” Roberts said.

The Dodgers will likely have to provide Syndergaard some support, as he doesn’t seem to believe in himself right now. After his most recent start, Syndergaard called himself the “weakest link” on the team, and said he would give his “hypothetical first-born” to get back to being the old version of himself.
Syndergaard is going to get another opportunity to show that he can at the very least be a solid starter on this team, but this may end up being his true last chance. If he struggles against the lowly Reds, his time in the Dodgers’ starting rotation could come to an end.
On the flip side, though, if he pitches well, he could buy himself more time in the rotation. Let’s hope for the best.
After Syndergaard’s most recent start, Dodgers catcher Will Smith made it clear that he still believes in his pitcher turning things around. Let’s hope Wednesday against the Reds is the start of something new for Syndergaard.
