Dodgers Reliever Suffers Foot Injury, Will Miss Start of Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ bullpen is continuing to be ravaged by injuries this spring.

On Tuesday, right-handed reliever Edgardo Henriquez was seen in a walking boot in the clubhouse. Manager Dave Roberts revealed he has a metatarsal injury, and will miss the start of the season.

Henriquez is one of the most prized young pitchers in the Dodgers organization.

In a very rare instance, the 22-year-old has logged more postseason innings than he has regular season innings upon his debut in late 2024.

Henriquez was called up in late September as a result of the many pitching injuries the Dodgers faced on their way to the World Series.

With only 3.1 innings pitched in the regular season, Henriquez was thrown directly into the fire and tasked with pitching in the National League Division Series and Championship Series last season.

In his five October innings, the Venezuelan struck out three and walked three, allowing four runs along the way.

The right-hander has been in the Dodgers system since he was 17 years old, but has recently showed why he was fast-tracked to the majors.

Last season in the minor league circuit, he threw 53 innings with an ERA of 2.72. His 88 strikeouts to only 29 walks proved that he has major league stuff and was up for the challenge of pitching when the lights shined brightest.

The Dodgers are not the only ones to notice Henriquez’s talent.

CBS Sports insider R.J. Anderson picked Henriquez as a candidate to have a breakout season in 2025 given his youth, postseason experience, and an upper-90s fastball.

There is no timeline currently, but Roberts said that he wasn’t “ready” to answer the questions about how it happened. What seems evident is that Henriquez is added to a growing list of pitchers who will not be ready for the start of the season.
