Dodgers: Remembering Tommy Lasorda, Baseball World Reacts to Icon’s Death

Tommy Lasorda, the Hall of Fame manager who led the Los Angeles Dodgers to four National League Pennants, two World Series titles and later served as interim general manager before becoming a special advisor to the team, has passed away at 93. Baseball’s most unforgettable ambassador held different roles with the Dodgers for 71 years, making him the franchise’s longest-tenured employee. We remember the beloved manager and look back at his legendary career.

Back in 1987 when I was stationed in Camp Pendleton, I attended a prayer breakfast the base was sponsoring, and Tommy Lasorda was the guest speaker–remember those were his heyday years–there was a relatively small group of us, maybe about 40-50 of us Marines, So, it was an intimate setting. Afterwards, I got a chance to meet and talk with him a bit. What a great guy. RIP.
