Dodgers RHP Tyler Glasnow Has ‘Some of the Best Stuff in Baseball,’ Says MLB Analyst

When healthy, new Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow is one of the best starters in the game. But the biggest issue for him has been his inability to stay on the mound over the last few years.

However, the Dodgers are not too concerned with that fact. They believe that his injury issues are behind him, and he can give them a solid amount of innings over the next five seasons.

When he’s on, his has some of the nastiest stuff in the league. Former player and current MLB Analyst Alex Avila had some high praise for the newest Dodgers right-hander.

“Glasnow is a freight train. When he’s on the mound and he’s healthy, he’s got some of the best stuff in baseball.”

Glasnow is 6-foot-8, so he is a towering presence on the mound for opposing hitters. He uses his height to his advantage when taking his strides off the mound, and it has worked out very well so far.

His ability to mix his pitches is impressive, and he has one of the best breaking balls in the game today. He also added a slider to his skill set over the last few years, and it has been deadly for batters to deal with.

His decrease in the use of his fastball has allowed him to navigate games better while keeping hitters on their toes at all times. Glasnow blends his pitches well, using a nice mix throughout the games.

“I hated facing this guy,” Avila said. “He’s huge on the mound, the ball looks like it’s on top of you. Nasty breaking ball.”

The Dodgers brought Glasnow in for many reasons, but especially to help in the postseason. His stuff plays well come playoff time, and once he starts working with the L.A. staff, he should only get better.

“This is also a move for October,” Avila said. “You need swing and miss stuff in October, and if he’s pitching any game for you in the playoffs, this is a win right here.”

The Dodgers have faltered in the postseason over the last couple of years, so this was a move to try to change that. They believe in Glasnow, and now it’s time for him to show what he can do on the big stage.
