Dodgers’ Rival Giants Reportedly Offered Yoshinobu Yamamoto Over $300 Million Deal

Even after acquiring Tyler Glasnow via trade with the Rays, the Dodgers still desperately need more starting pitching. Yoshinobu Yamamoto has risen to the top of the free agency list this year. According to multiple reports thus far — and even the comments of Dave Roberts — the Dodgers have been all in on acquiring Yamamoto.

Recently, reports have circulated that Yamamoto’s decision would come down to either the Dodgers or the Yankees. This may not be the case, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic. He reports that both the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco Giants have made offers north of $300 million to the Japanese pitcher.

Everyone knew that the Giants would look to spend big this offseason. After missing out on Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa last season, they made it known they had money to spend.

Fast forward to this offseason which contained marquee free agents Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Giants president Fahran Zaidi said that the Giants matched the Dodgers’ offer to Ohtani, but ultimately Ohtani signed with L.A.

It seems the Giants have set their sights on Yamamoto, the consensus best pitcher of this free agency. Despite this news, it may not change the outlook on Yamamoto’s landing spot.

Yamamoto has made it known that he does not mind playing with other Japanese stars. Furthermore, this offer is well within the reported offers for Yamamoto — who’s projected to earn $300 million. Also, for whatever it’s worth, Yamamoto reportedly grew up a Dodgers fan.

So, this may still just come down to the Yankees and Dodgers with the Giants just having made a competitive offer. For one reason or another, baseball stars have shied away from signing with San Francisco.

Hopefully, Yamamoto will join his Samurai Japan teammate Shohei Ohtani in Dodger Blue this offseason.

    1. MLB should step in and give l.a.d. YYamamoto. Then retroactively throw in Tatis Jr . to the yanks, would only be fair to small markets.

  1. Interesting that Kevin mentions “for some reason, baseball stars seem to be shying away from San Francisco”. Well, how about the streets smelling like urine? How about having to avoid stepping in human feces, or stepping on discarded needles? How about the massive amounts of homeless camps and drug dens? How about the rampant crime? The extremely pushy panhandlers? Or, maybe, the closure of many of SF’s landmark stores and restaurants? Or the city’s refusal to prosecute criminal behavior while constantly degrading the police? The Giants need to tell the City to get their act together because its hurting them. Notice the 49ers aren’t having this issue? Because they left SF for Santa Clara!
