Shohei Ohtani’s Dodgers Press Conference Got More Views Than the Entire 2023 World Series

On Thursday, the Dodgers formally introduced two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani as the newest member of the team. This took place at Dodger Stadium in front of a frenzy of media personnel.

Ohtani hadn’t spoken to the media since August, so this was a highly-anticipated event for everyone, not just fans of the Dodgers. The press conference was watched all over the world and drew 70 million viewers. This large number of viewership surpassed the entire 2023 World Series between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks.

The fact that an introductory press conference got these numbers is absolutely insane, but it shows the draw that Ohtani possesses. Combining his own brand with that of the Dodgers organization should make for more incredible viewership totals during their tenure together.

The league got their wish with Ohtani landing in Los Angeles, and now they are likely hoping that the Dodgers see success on the field. If the Dodgers were to make the World Series, the ratings would be off the charts with intrigue from all over the globe.

The Dodgers are one of the premier teams across the sports world, but with Ohtani now in the mix, it will be taken to a new level. His jersey sales have already broken the all-time record for Fanatics in a 48-hour period, which is awesome for the team and the league.

The Shohei Ohtani effect is very real, and the Dodgers got just a small glimpse of what the next 10 years will likely look like.
