Dodgers Roster News: LA Calls Up Pitching Prospect to Bolster Bullpen for Series vs Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a roster move ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Cincinnati Reds, selecting the contract of RHP Nick Robertson from Triple-A. To make room on the active roster, RHP Tayler Scott was optioned.

Robertson, 24, has been dominating in Triple-A this season, sporting a 2.13 ERA in in 25.1 innings. The former seventh-round pick by the Dodgers in the 2019 draft has slowly risen the ranks of the minor leagues, and is enjoying his best year yet in Triple-A this season.

He’s 7-for-7 in save opportunties and has struck out 37 batters while walking just seven. He’s also allowed opponents to hit just .185 against him in 24 appearances.

The Dodgers bullpen has been a struggle all year long, so they’re hoping the 24-year-old can provide a boost. As for Scott, he’s still made just one appearance with the big league club in his two stints in Los Angeles this season. He pitched 1.2 scoreless innings against the Yankees on Saturday night.

Making Sense of the Luke Williams Move

This addition of Robertson also adds clarity to why the Dodgers tried to push Luke Williams through waivers on Monday. The Dodgers needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Robertson, so they tried to get Williams off of it.

Unfortunately for them, the Atlanta Braves didn’t allow them to push him through waivers, and instead claimed him. However, Williams wasn’t likely to see time with the Dodgers again this season barring a rash of injuries, so he’ll now get an opportunity in Atlanta.

Welcome to the big leagues, Nick Robertson! We can’t wait to see what you can add to this Dodgers bullpen.
