Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Talks Resurgence of David Peralta

David Peralta has become one of the favorites within the Dodgers clubhouse in the short time that he has been with the club. His one-year contract with the team right before spring training was no guarantee of anything, but he remained positive, and it led to him getting consistent playing time in the outfield.

Peralta won’t let any negativity enter his brain. He knows that baseball is a tough sport to play and takes the punches in the same manner as the praise.

“It’s a hard game,” Peralta said to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic recently. “Everyone can focus on the mistakes, focusing on results, negative stuff. … But you always have to take a little positive out of everything.”

He is now solidified in the mix for the outfield platoon that the Dodgers use and anytime he’s in the lineup, Dave Roberts is happy, no matter what the results yield.

“For me, I don’t look at the batting average with David. I don’t look at the OPS. Because like I said the other day when he’s in there, I feel like he’s going to give us a quality at-bat.”

His stats don’t pop off the screen by any means, but Peralta is a nice veteran presence to have in the clubhouse and in the lineup. So far this season, he is hitting .242 with two home runs and 19 runs batted in. Roberts did talk about where he can improve at the plate, though.

“I think that you can see that in (Peralta) being a little overaggressive, the chase. I think like with anyone if you can control that strike zone you’re going to have a better opportunity to consistently be a better hitter.”

Since May 1, Peralta has a OPS of .831 and has continued to put together quality at bats. His added defense is a plus for Roberts to keep him out there whenever his bat does struggle. Peralta came to Los Angeles to help keep his career alive and he’s doing just that with a team that has title aspirations.
