Dodgers Rumors: Insider Believes LA and Jason Heyward May Explore a Reunion This Offseason

Entering the 2023 season, there was hardly anyone who saw veteran Jason Heyward having the kind of impact that he did on the Dodgers season. He joined the team on a minor-league deal, but worked his way onto the roster and ultimately became one of the more important members of the team.

He didn’t do much in the postseason, but then again most of the Dodgers players didn’t. During the regular season, however, Heyward put up good numbers. He hit .269 with 15 home runs and 40 runs batted in over 124 games played.

MLB insider J.P. Hoornstra of The Orange County Register looked at the Dodgers roster and provided some insight into what could happen with each player for 2024. This includes linking Heyward and LA together for next season.

Considering how his season ended (.813 OPS in 124 games), it’s hard to believe it began with a minor-league contract. Heyward will command a major-league contract somewhere this offseason. Considering how the Dodgers successfully rebuilt his swing and maximized his talent in a platoon arrangement, they can’t be ruled out.”

Getting Heyward back in the mix would be a solid get for LA this winter. He showed that he still has plenty left in the tank going forward, and his leadership on the team can’t be overstated.

The veteran seemed to really enjoy playing in Los Angeles, and the fans loved him as well. Heyward brought an infectious energy to this Dodgers team, and his veteran presence was really helpful for many of the younger players that LA had on the roster.

He was essentially a mentor to rookie outfielder James Outman, and if he were to re-sign, he could continue helping him grow as a player.

That alone could be beneficial to bringing Heyward back if LA sees Outman as an everyday player moving forward, which they should.

Bringing Heyward back would be a smart move for the Dodgers, and it would help give them a sense of continuity as well. He was a strong producer this past season, and another year in this system should only help things even more.
