Dodgers Rumors: LA Could Pivot to Ian Happ if They Do Not Land Juan Soto

Happy trade deadline day everyone, it’s going to be pretty wild. With the Dodgers in on a few names around the league, there is a high expectation that they make at least one splash. And while many are hoping that splash comes in the form of Juan Soto, there could very well be others.

One guy to watch is Ian Happ. The Cubs’ switch hitter can play all over the field, including all 3 outfield spots as well as second and third base. That would play up big time for the Dodgers, who love defensive versatility in their lineup.

Happ also has pretty decent splits, hitting near .250 against righties and up over .350 against left-handed pitching. It’s been a long while since the Dodgers had an everyday player that was also a switch hitter. But as of right now, it appears he is the backup plan to Juan Soto.

Happ has another year of team control left before he is able to hit free agency after the 2023 season. With a career OPS right around .800, he would be a great alternative for the Dodgers should Soto land somewhere else. His 122 wRC+ is up near his career bests too, and he was just an All-Star for the first time this year.

If the Dodgers truly want a bat, landing Happ might be the best option for them barring a Soto miracle.
