Dodgers Rumors: Lance Lynn Hopeful He Can Be Back With LA Next Season

As the Dodgers offseason gets into full swing, they have some choices to make on how to build out their starting rotation. The team has a need for themselves to add at least two starters, with one being a front-line guy.

But one name that could circle around for more of a depth signing could be a familiar one. That would be starter Lance Lynn, who the team declined his option on, but the two sides could always come back together.

The home-run-happy pitcher was the last line of defense for the Dodgers in the playoffs, and it was never a good option. Many will remember his four-home run inning in game three, but he should have never been in that situation to begin with.

While appearing on an episode of the show Foul Territory, Lynn expressed that is hopeful to stay with the Dodgers for next season.

“They’re obviously going through everything that they need to go through in the offseason in the way they want to set up the team for next year. There’s still some communication on some thoughts that hopefully I can be around but they have to do their job. So it’s a wait and see. I enjoyed my time in LA – I learned a lot. You have a lot of fun, a lot of good teammates there. Hopefully I get the opportunity to be back.”

This was prior to the team declining his option for the 2024 season, but there is a chance for him to return. LA turned down paying him $18 million for next year, but the two sides could always renegotiate a more team-friendly contract.

While Lynn wasn’t the best for LA, he always wasn’t the worst either. He did what he could, but the expectations for him were too high from the jump.

Being the only starting pitching piece that the Dodgers traded for at the deadline, Lynn was looked at as the savior for this rotation. But he was never going to be that, especially amid his issues last season, even before coming to LA.

If the team were to bring Lynn back, they would need to do so with the mindset of him being the fourth starter in the rotation or even the fifth. If they signed a front-line guy, and another one or two starters, Lynn could be a solid back of the rotation piece.

He does eat a lot of innings throughout the season, and his veteran presence is always welcomed. Plus, he brings an edge to himself that the team could benefit from.

  1. Don’t need him, don’t want him. Focus on the big game pitchers that are needed. Don’t waste a spot in the rotation on a pitcher who can be remarkably good for two innings and then unleash an Armageddon of homers unseen anywhere else but from the arm of Lance Lynn.
