Dodgers Rumors: MLB Insider Provides Major Update On Shohei Ohtani Free Agency Decision

It seems that we are heading toward the finish line with the Shohei Ohtani free agent sweepstakes. With the winter meetings taking place this coming week, Ohtani is expected to make his decision very soon.

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, we could be looking at a very short timeline for it. He is reporting that Ohtani is likely to decide where he will play next season within the next week.

This goes with what most have thought, and the entire baseball world is waiting to see where he will go. The Dodgers have remained the frontrunners throughout the entire process, but Ohtani has shocked the industry before.

Teams like the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays have emerged as serious threats to LA, and there has been a ton of buzz around them. Nobody knows what or where Ohtani wants to go, and his camp has made it that way.

They have held secret meetings with teams, and have said that they will hold it against clubs if those leak out. Ohtani is unlike any free agent we’ve ever seen, also due to the fact that he hardly speaks to the media.

The one aspect of his decision that has been made clear is his desire to win going forward. This would put the Dodgers in the driver’s seat, or so one would think. LA would give him a legitimate chance to win the World Series every single season, something the majority of other teams can’t offer.

They also have the financial resources to back his contract, while also going to add more talent to the team. Again, many other teams can’t offer this perk to him.

It remains to be seen where Ohtani will land, but many signs have pointed toward it being with the Dodgers. However, free agency is fluid and things can change in an instant. But hopefully, when all is said and done, LA will come out the winners of the Ohtani sweepstakes.

  1. Ha! First they said he would sign before the meetings! In other words they are clueless

  2. If Freidman was going to sign Ohtani he would have already. Just like Nola, and Cole, and Harper, after he signs with someone else we will hear that the Dodgers made an offer it just wasn’t good enough. If you want the best player you give him the best offer. Freidman’s mo is getting old for the fans that are not satisfied with getting swept in the first round of the playoffs. 100 wins in the regular season and a first round loss is a failed season!

  3. I hear you BUT…..it’s Ohtani’s call, NOT the Dodgers. I believe he’s going to decide on his terms, his timing. F.O. couldn’t change that whatever they do.
    Just sayin’

  4. Most fans would love to have an organization like the Dodgers. The world series of course is the goal. And every year the Dodgers compete for it. You can’t buy a team that wins every year. Ask the Padres lol. I’ll take 100 plus wins and a division title every year. It takes an organization to constantly win. And thank the baseball gods the Dodgers have one of the best in all of professional sports

  5. The Dodgers make sense for Ohtani for competitiveness (playoffs 11 years in a row), marketing around the world, and closer flights to home than East Coast teams. But this all was true 6 years ago, and the guy chose the Angels. If they don’t sign him, it won’t be for lack of enough money in their offer to set up his family for the next several generations, even if it is not the absolute top dollar. And he will make more in marketing as a Dodger than otherwise. If he does not sign, spend the money on starting pitching [not even more relievers who will get or who are injured].
