MLB Insider Says Dodgers Remain Favorite for Shohei Ohtani

Starting at designated hitter for your Los Angeles Dodgers, #17 Shohei Ohtani.

Did that give you chills? Well, it should.

And if you believe all of the hype around Ohtani, the Dodgers are seen as the frontrunners to land him. Many in the industry believe that he will end up picking the Dodgers, but his team has been so quiet throughout the free-agent process.

MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today interviewed with our very own Doug McKain and provided an update on the free agency of Ohtani. Nightengale still believes that the Dodgers are the favorites for Ohtani despite all of the noise coming out around the league.

“Yeah I’d still go with them as the favorites. They’ve been the favorites, there’s other teams right there. The Dodgers love to have the brand, they want to become Japan’s team.”

The Dodgers have long been thought to be the favorite to land the two-way superstar, but there are other teams positioning themselves well. The Toronto Blue Jays have emerged as a serious threat to the Dodgers for Ohtani, and the Chicago Cubs also have been involved in the bidding.

But if we are to take Ohtani at his word about his desire to win at the highest level, then the Dodgers make the most sense for him. They can offer him a legitimate chance to win the World Series every single season he spends with the team, and they have the resources to improve the team each year as well.

With the winter meetings coming up next week, we should have more clarity on the entire Ohtani situation. Hopefilly, when the dust settles, he will be wearing a Dodgers jersey for the foreseeable future.
