Dodgers Rumors: MLB Insider Sees Major Issue in Giants Pursuit Of Shohei Ohtani

The Dodgers interest in free agent Shohei Ohtani has been a major talking point for a long time now, and the team is expected to be aggressive in bringing him to town this offseason. They remain the frontrunners for him, but that isn’t stopping other teams from putting together strong offers themselves.

One of the biggest competitors of the Dodgers for Ohtani could come from their longtime rival, the San Francisco Giants. San Francisco has been trying to bring a star to town for a while now, and they have the funds to make it happen. However, there may be a slight issue with their attempt to land Ohtani.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Oracle Park may end up playing a factor in the team’s pursuit of Ohtani.

“The Giants should be a big player for two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. But some who know Ohtani see a possible hurdle for the Giants: their ballpark.”

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post

According to Statcast, left-handed hitters struggle to hit home runs at Oracle Park, and with Ohtani being a lefty hitter, it may factor into things. While it doesn’t seem like Ohtani will factor ballparks into his decision, it’s something to think about.

Ohtani has said previously that he doesn’t keep track of his performance in different parks, but that could be him humbling himself as well. The biggest goal for Ohtani is to win, and if he can’t perform well due to the park, it could cause issues,

“While Oracle Park is one of the most beautiful, it’s unfriendly to lefty power hitters. Some believe Ohtani isn’t in it for the money but to show he’s the best.”

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post

It remains to be seen if this is a reason why Ohtani wouldn’t consider the Giants, but Dodgers fans are going to complain if it is. San Francisco is the last place any LA fan would want to see him sign with if he doesn’t land with the Dodgers this winter.

  1. The Giants stadium, whatever it’s called this week, is unfriendly to left hand hitters? The park that was built for Barry Bonds? I don’t think so…
