Dodgers Rumors: Writer Predicts LA Trades for Cardinals LHP Jordan Montgomery

The Dodgers need starting pitching like California needs rain. They can’t keep moving forward with the same players and expecting different results in the process. Luckily for them, the trade deadline is quickly approaching, and the team is expected to be aggressive when looking for help.

One name that Dodger fans are likely used to at this point is Jordan Montgomery. He has been linked with the Dodgers recently, and with the need to upgrade the starting pitching, LA could make a move.

Brandon Scott of Bleacher Report predicted eight different moves for the upcoming trade deadline, and one of them involved Montgomery being sent to the Dodgers.

“Montgomery has a 1.47 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over his last seven starts. He has a 3.14 ERA and 1.23 WHIP on the season.”

Per Bleacher Report

Getting Montgomery would be a small upgrade to the rotation, but an upgrade nonetheless. He isn’t the big splashy move that many are expecting LA to make, but he would be a solid get as the season winds down.

With the team having three rookie pitchers in their rotation, Montgomery would bring a veteran presence and some experience. He has played in two playoff games in his career, including last season with the Cardinals.

Montgomery is also a free agent at the conclusion of the season, so if things don’t turn out well, then the Dodgers can let him walk.

Despite everything that has gone wrong for LA this season, they still find themselves in familiar territory. They have survived the inconsistency of the season and still sit in first place within the NL West.

“Given how inactive their offseason was, it would stand to reason the Dodgers would be more aggressive at the trade deadline with another NL West title in sight.”

Per Bleacher Report

The front office understands that these next few weeks will make or break this team. They can’t head into the stretch run relying on the same pitchers that got them to this point, and changes need to be made.

Luckily for the Dodgers, they have both the resources and the financial tools to make some moves that can help them. LA’s pitching staff may look a little different once the deadline ends, and they should be better for it.
