Dodgers Rumors: Writer Thinks LA Could Get an Absolute Haul From Cubs for Top Prospect Dalton Rushing

As we reach closer to the MLB All-Star break, another date comes to mind – the August 1st Trade Deadline. A break like All-Star week is a great opportunity for the Dodgers to take stock of what they have, and see where they need to make upgrades as the deadline nears.

Ranked 20th in the majors, it’s no secret the Dodgers can use a bullpen upgrade, but what other holes can the Dodgers fill within a trade?

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report has suggested a few ideas that we at DodgersNation.com can get behind. One of them fills the need in the bullpen, rotation and infield.

Rymer says a trade with the Chicago Cubs to acquire RHP Marcus Stroman, 3B Patrick Wisdom and RHP Michael Fulmer for Dodgers prospect catcher, Dalton Rushing, could be an interesting move.

Currently posting a 2.96 ERA in 19 games started, Stroman appears to be one of the top names to watch this year on the market, especially since he’s likely to opt out of his current contract with Chicago.

And for someone who is posting these kind of numbers, surely Stroman could be a huge addition to the Dodgers’ injured rotation.

Wisdom (59 G, 214 PA, 14 HR, 28 RBI, .189 AVG, .277 OBP, .453 SLG) and Fulmer (39 G, 39 IP, 33 H (5 HR), 40 K, 17 BB, 4.62 ERA) would be interesting buy-low options, as both players are struggling this year but have shown tons of promise in the past.

As for the Dodgers’ piece of the trade, Dalton Rushing is currently ranked as the club’s No. 4 prospect and is racking up a 1.067 OPS through his first 78 minor league games. Rushing is set to be a future staple for any team in the Majors, but the Dodgers have their fair share of high-level backstops.

Is this trade strategy a good idea for the Dodgers? And would it bring the boys in blue back into the battle for the NL West? It’s definitely an interesting idea.

  1. Absolutely not. Rushing is worth a lot more. They could packing him and another prospect, Corbin burns and Willy Adames. That’s worth it.

  2. Stroman we could use, however we sure don’t need another infielder below the Mendoza Line and a reliever who regularly gets lit up.

  3. Not a fair trade for the cubs with Marcus Stroman. A completely unproven catcher in the majors for a cy young contender and a guy who has less than a 2.0 era since April and great slugging bench bat. The cubs already have multiple catching prospects as well as Miguel Amaya. The dodgers would have to give more than that even if it’s just for a half season of control for Stroman. A starting pitcher of his caliber is worth at least a top prospect and a decent major leaguer with more than half year control to fill the gap.

  4. There’s no way the cubs are doing that trade you’re smokin crack…..they’re not trading stroman let alone 3 players for a single prospect, better add at least a couple more prospects
