Dodgers Send Thank You to Walker Buehler Following Red Sox Signing

Starting pitcher Walker Buehler won’t be returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers next season. Though many fans were in a fever dream after the news broke of Buehler signing a one-year deal with the Boston Red Sox, the Dodgers have officially said goodbye to the right-hander.

In a post to the team’s social media, the Dodgers thanked Buehler for the last seven seasons in Los Angeles.

“Thank you Walker for seven incredible seasons in Dodger blue,” the team said. “From Game 163 to closing out the 2024 World Series, your impact won’t be forgotten. Best of luck in Boston!”

The team also posted a video recounting the best of Buehler’s time in Dodger blue. From throwing his first no-hitter to pitching in relief in the ninth inning of Game 5 of the World Series, the best memories of Buehler were highlighted in the video.

“Two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion,” the caption read. “Thank you, 21.”

Buehler’s final performance in Dodger blue was something fans will never forget, and it was the perfect culmination to a bittersweet end for the right-hander. Though Buehler had a trying 2024 season, he helped the Dodgers secure the organization’s eighth World Series title.

“What Walker did, what he has done for us, what he did for us this year, his teammates, that does not go lost on us,” general manager Brandon Gomes said last month.

Buehler had been candid about the possibility of joining a new team for the first time in his career, but he also revealed his confidence had returned after his heroics throughout October.

“The past couple months,” Buehler said amid his postseason resurgence, “I’ve kind of built my confidence up a little bit to the point that there’ll be some teams that would want me on their team. I feel like a major league starting pitcher, whether it’s here or elsewhere.”

And now the possibility of Buehler leaving Los Angeles has become a reality. Buehler will join a rebuilt Boston rotation and an organization that is eager to play October baseball.
