Dodgers: Several Starters Get the Day Off on Wednesday

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks will play the final game of their series this afternoon in Arizona. With both teams looking to take the series, it will be a big matchup with Julio Urias and Zac Gallen. But Los Angeles will have a few of their normal players out of the lineup.

Given that it’s an afternoon game immediately after a night game, it makes sense that the Dodgers would sit a few guys. Dave Roberts really likes to get some of his players a day off of their feet, even with the day off on Thursday.

Justin Turner is one of the guys that will be sitting out. The Dodgers opted to go with Edwin Rios at DH and Max Muncy at the hot corner. And truth be told, JT could probably use the afternoon off. He has played every game since Friday night in San Diego and has gone 3-for-19(.158) over that stretch. Getting him an opportunity to sit for two days might be ideal.

The Dodgers will also sit Will Smith and go with Austin Barnes behind the plate. Smith has played in 4 of the last 5 games and will often get days off to rest. Over his last 3 games, he has gone 4-for-10 with a homerun and 4 runs driven in. He has really put together some great at-bats lately, and having him in the lineup is always huge.

We’ll see if they can get it done, but it’s still a very good lineup for the Dodgers against Gallen. Mookie Betts in particular has had a lot of success against him, albeit in a limited sample size.

  1. Seems that Muncy isn’t ready to go everyday. Maybe give him some time off to work in his game. ( off and def). Might want to consider sitting Mookie also, obviously not 100 %. BTW, let’s figure out who is the real closer !
