Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Now Holds MLB Record For Most HRs by a Japanese-Born Player

In the bottom of the 3rd inning against the New York Mets on Sunday, Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani made history. He hit his record-breaking 176th career home run, surpassing Hideki Matsui for most home runs by a Japanese-born player.

Ohtani had tied Matsui on April 13 against the San Diego Padres. It was an extremely special moment for the star player and now he stands alone with the record.

Things had been a little slow for Ohtani to start the year but he has since picked it up at the plate. He is now hitting .362 with five home runs and 13 runs batted in.

Ohtani has started to look more and more like himself, which has been great to see. His home run gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the game as they look to break their multiple game losing streak.
