Dodgers Star Freddie Freeman Doesn’t Have Umpire Ruin the Moment in Return to Atlanta
Freddie Freeman is back home in Atlanta for the second time since signing a 6 year deal with the Dodgers and once again felt the love from the fanbase that rooted for him for his first 12 years as a big leaguer. There was no question that he would receive plenty of cheers, but his first at-bat evolved into a standing ovation and a moment that thankfully wasn’t ruined by the home plate umpire and the pitch clock.
Dodgers fans know full well the insanity that ensued when Cody Bellinger made his return to Dodger Stadium earlier this year and the pitch clock violation he was assessed for taking in the love from the crowd.
The league does have a rule where clubs can inform the commissioner’s office about a potential moment involving returning players and things being slowed down by a show of appreciation. Chances are likely that the Braves put in the proper paperwork in preparation for the moment. Or maybe home play umpire Alan Porter is just a dang human being.
