For a second consecutive day, the Los Angeles Dodgers jumped out to an early lead over the Chicago Cubs.

Yasiel Puig laid down a surprise bunt single and Adrian Gonzalez followed with a two-run home run. Roberto Hernandez gave a run back in the bottom of the first as Chris Coghlan hit an opposite field home run.

Anthony Rizzo hit a one-out single and Hernandez walked Luis Valbuena to put two on with two outs. The Dodger right-hander got out of the inning without further damage by getting Arismendy Alcantara to fly out.

Dee Gordon led off the third inning with a single and stole his 64th base of the season. Felix Doubront then walked Puig and gave up a three-run home run to Gonzalez. With two on and two outs, Scott Van Slyke hit an RBI double to give the Dodgers a 6-1 lead.

Coghlan hit a leadoff single in the third, however Hernandez retired the next three batters to preserve the Dodgers’ lead. Hernandez wasn’t as fortunate in the fourth inning as he gave up a leadoff double and another with one out to Logan Watkins that cut the Dodgers’ lead to 6-2.
