Dodgers: Will Los Angeles Sign Trea Turner to An Extension?

When you think about the guys the Dodgers currently have in their system, it’s surprising that Trea Turner hasn’t received an extension. As of right now, Jacob Amaya is the only shortstop in their top 20 prospects, and he’s not very close to being big-league ready.

So if the Dodgers are keeping that in mind, they have to be looking at the free-agent market after the 2022 season. Guys like Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts, and Elvis Andrus could all be options. But they have a star shortstop on their team right now, and he could be signed.

So what are the odds that they try to scoop him up before the season comes to an end?

At the end of the day, it all comes down to where the Dodgers want to spend their money. They could plan on Gavin Lux playing short in 2023, but many do not believe that is the position for him in the big leagues.

At the moment, Trea isn’t at his usual numbers at the plate. He has posted a 118 wRC+, the lowest mark of his career since the 2019 season. But the Dodgers know what he is capable of, and he is still hitting the ball very hard. The hits will come, but will the extension come too?

  1. Make a realistic offer, show him the dotted line and see what happens. He is worth it. Any SS out there not at same level as TT.

  2. KIMBREL ALLLLLLLLL DAY AND TWICE ON SUNDAY. JANSEN IS NOT WORTH THE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. I FEEL ROBERTS IS NOT USING KIMBREL THE WAY HE USED JANSEN. HE IS THE CLOSER! USE HIM, HE NEEDS TO BE USED TO CLOSE OUT GAMES AND NOT SIT ON THE BENCH.

    SIGN TREA TODAY! SCREW CORREA!

  3. Based on what we’ve seen so far, many don’t believe that second base is the position for Gavin Lux, either. Or the outfield, for that matter.

  4. Well, his agent is not Boras, so, we have a shot at an extension. Depends on how much for how long. And, how much does he want to live in the east. Will be 30 years old halfway thru next season. I would not go longer than 6 years. Taylor can play SS.

  5. Lux played SS in the minors and played well. Not sure we you have decided he is not a SS. You completely dismiss Amaya who is on the 40 man roster and is tearing up AA with a 1000 plus OPS. So frankly you have zero credibility. Clickbait

  6. Lux can’t find first base from short right field, he will need google earth to find it from short stop.
They should sign Trey, but they won’t, because this management group does not value speed or the stolen base. 2nd base is no longer scoring position for this team. They don’t tag up on fly balls that other teams tag up on, they always play it safe, don’t take risks, which is fine if all the bats are firing, but boring baseball otherwise. They should put a plaque by Jackie R’s statute explaining what stealing home is, since this team would never think of such a risky stunt. And they weren’t shifting if Jackie’s day, giving the runner on third a huge lead.
