Dodgers’ Will Smith Calls Padres’ Jurickson Profar ‘Irrelevant’ Following Bench Clearing Incident
In the top of the 5th inning of last night’s game against the San Diego Padres, the two teams saw their benches clear. Padres’ utilityman Jurickson Profar took offense to a pitch from Gavin Stone that was a little inside. Some words were exchanged and then the benches cleared.
At this time of the game, Stone was pitching a perfect game, so there would be no need for him to throw at Profar. But Profar at first believed that the young right-hander was throwing at him, leading to the incident.
Dodgers catcher Will Smith spoke after the fact with David Vassegh of AM 570, saying that Profar is “irrelevant” and that he doesn’t understand why he would think they would throw at him.
“I don’t know why we would have thrown at him…he’s kind of irrelevant. “

Stone would have had no motivation to throw at Profar in this situation, especially within a one-run game. Smith continued his thoughts on the matter.
“I thought the whole thing was silly, stupid, whatever you want to call it. I don’t really know why he thought we were trying to hit him there. It was kind of weird.”
This isn’t the first time that Profar has gotten into it with the Dodgers. He got into it with Clayton Kershaw a while back as well.
The bench-clearing didn’t seem to rattle Stone or the Dodgers, as they went on to grab the win. However, this will be something to watch for later in today’s game and down the line when the two sides meet up the rest of the year.

He’s just a schmuck, the whole team are jerks and starts with their so called leader Captain MM. Can’t take a little heat inside so he cries foul? Go sit on the bench and think about it. All cry babies.
