Dodgers, Yankees World Series Sets Highest Viewership Numbers in Years

As expected, the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees has been a ratings magnet so far through the first two games. The Dodgers and Yankees, two of the most storied and popular franchises in the league, drew the best ratings in years in Games 1 and 2 since 2017.

Through the first two games of the series, the Dodgers and Yankees are averaging 14.5 million viewers per game across all networks, per FOX Sports PR. This is the most viewers to start the World Series since 2017 when the Dodgers took on the Houston Astros. Game 2 of the World Series drew 13.8 million viewers.

The Dodgers and Yankees have provided viewers with two exciting games to start the World Series, which should only encourage fans to keep tuning in. Game 1 of the World Series got off to a slow start as neither team scored until the fifth inning. The Dodgers struck first with a run in the fifth inning before the Yankees drove in two during the sixth inning. The Dodgers tied up the game in the eighth inning, and neither team scored in the ninth, forcing extra innings.

The Yankees took a 3-2 lead in the top of the tenth inning after Anthony Volpe drove in a run from Jazz Chisholm Jr. At the bottom of the tenth, the Dodgers managed to get two runners on base with two outs when the Yankees decided to intentionally walk Mookie Betts. Freddie Freeman came up to the plate and delivered a storybook ending when he hit the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history. The Dodgers won 6-3.

In Game 2 of the series on Saturday, the Dodgers held a 4-1 lead entering the ninth inning. The Yankees had not done much outside of a Juan Soto home run but nearly pulled off a comeback in the final inning. Soto scored on a run again, and the Yankees loaded the bases. Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen managed a second out before Alex Vesia came in to earn the save.

Game 3 of the World Series will move to Yankee Stadium in New York, and take place on Monday.
