Former Dodgers 3rd-Round Pick Announces Retirement From MLB

Former Los Angeles Dodgers third-round pick Brandon Dixon has announced his retirement from MLB. The 32-year-old Dixon was drafted by the Dodgers in the third round out of Arizona in the 2013 MLB Draft.

Dixon announced his retirement on Thursday via Instagram.

“Officially retired from baseball. I’m so thankful for all the relationships, support, and experiences over the past 10 years. It’s been a fun journey to go from a kid dreaming of playing in the big leagues to getting to play for my hometown team the past couple of years. Thank you to everyone who was part of it.”

Dixon would not get the opportunity to play for the Dodgers in the major leagues. He climbed the minor-league ladder from the Class-A Great Lakes Loons, advanced Class-A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Double-A Tulsa Drillers.

In 2015, Dixon was part of a three-team trade that sent him, Scott Schebler and José Peraza to the Cincinnati Reds while the Dodgers received Micah Johnson, Frankie Montas and Trayce Thompson. The Reds traded Todd Frazier to the Chicago White Sox.

Dixon would make his major league debut in 2018 with the Reds before spending 2019-20 with the Detroit Tigers. He also had a brief one-year stint in Nippon Professional Baseball with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2021, before closing out his MLB career with the San Diego Padres from 2022-23.

Dixon closes out his career with a .224 batting average, 22 home runs and 74 runs batted in.
