Freddie Freeman Surprisingly Out of Dodgers Lineup Monday vs Braves Following Day Off
The Los Angeles Dodgers have revealed their lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves, and in a surprise move, Freddie Freeman is not in there.
The Dodgers were off on Sunday, but Freeman is now out of the lineup on Monday.
Freeman doesn’t like missing games, but was dealing with a rib issue during the the Tokyo Series that kept him out of the lineup for both games. The rib discomfort was in the same spot he dealt with pain during last year’s World Series, it was just less severe.
As of last week, following the Freeway Series and ahead of Opening Day, Freeman said he didn’t have any more issues
“Hopefully it will be an afterthought by Thursday (Opening Day),” Freeman said last week. “I was able to hit in the cage and do whatever I wanted to on the day of Game 2 [in Japan]. But just didn’t know, game-speed, if it would make it come up again. So I thought we ultimately made the right decision.”
He also said at the time he was confident it was just due to some scar-tissue build-up from where it healed over the offseason.
Manager Dave Roberts is scheduled to speak to reporters soon, and will reveal why Freeman isn’t in the lineup.
