Gavin Lux on New Dodgers Teammate Shohei Ohtani: ‘He’s Just a Freak of Nature, Man’

Shohei Ohtani has been spotted working out at Dodger Stadium all offseason long, and he’s already making a positive impact on his new teammates. Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux, who’s been working out at Dodger Stadium rehabbing his torn ACL, spoke about Ohtani during an appearance on SportsNet LA, and had some very high praise for the two-way star.

“He’s just a really fun person to be around. He keeps everything super light, but he gets his work in. He’s in the weight room, he’s busting his you know what. When he’s taking his slips right now going through his rehab progression, it is intent. Everything is with intent, focus. He’s just a freak of nature, man.”

Ohtani is one of the more driven and competitive players in the game of baseball today, and having your star player like that only motivates others on the roster.

Many people who have spoken about Ohtani have said similar sentiments about him, and it’s a good experience for guys to learn from his mindset. Ohtani can help players attack different parts of their game, so having him around makes a direct impact without him even having played a game for Los Angeles.

“You get up next to him, he’s huge. We did the force plates yesterday and he’s like the best jumper in the organization. Just the stuff he can do on the baseball field is obviously unbelievable. But getting to be around him and see how he works and get to know him a little bit, it’s been pretty cool. I think we’re gonna score a lot of runs this year with him.”

Lux compliments players like Ohtani very well, and he should be in for a great season due to the stacked nature of the Los Angeles lineup. Since the pressure will be on the star players, Lux can ease back into everything coming off his torn ACL.

The season looks to be a special one for the Dodgers if health is on their side. The front office has done a great job building the roster out, and now it’s up to the players to produce at a high level all year.
