Injured J.D. Martinez ‘Very Unlikely’ to Play in Mets’ Series Against Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of a nine-game homestand. Entering their game against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, the team has one win in its first four games. Still, the Dodgers have a favorable schedule and could easily win their homestand starting today.

After the Nationals, the Dodgers will host the New York Mets for three games this weekend. While the Dodgers will look to get back on track, the Mets will still be without their most heralded offseason signing, former Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez.

MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo shared via Twitter/X that Martinez will not join the Mets for their West Coast road trip.

This would mean the former Dodger won’t be ready for his Mets debut until April 26. The 36-year-old slugger is dealing with a back injury that he suffered earlier this month. His

Martinez has yet to play a game in the 2024 season. The six-time All-Star had been slated to begin swinging a bat on Monday and resume his rehab assignment later this week. However, he will need a bit more time to rehab before being activated.

Last season with the Boys in Bue, Martinez slashed .271/.321/.572 with a .893 OPS, hit 33 home runs, and recorded 103 RBIs, his most since the 2019 season. The three-time silver slugger also was named an All-Star in his last season in Los Angeles.
