MLB News: 2023 Trade Deadline Has a New Date

Every baseball fan’s favorite time of the year has a new date for 2023. The MLB trade deadline will be on August 1, a Tuesday. This comes after the deadline falling on August 2nd a year ago, which was also a Tuesday. For years it fell on July 31st.

MLB insider Jim Bowden reported the update.

As Anthony Franco at MLB Trade Rumors said it, the league’s “primary consideration has been to ensure the deadline falls on a weekday” to avoid trades potentially happening during a game in an earlier afternoon start.

For Andrew Friedman and the Dodgers, the day falling on the 1st and not the 31st allots one more day to assess roster needs and for other teams with trade assets to figure out if they’re buyers or sellers.
