Dodgers News: MLB Hall of Famer Predicts Mookie Betts Wins 2023 NL MVP Award

Even after their slow and rather disappointing offseason, your Los Angeles Dodgers are still loaded with talent. The 2023 Dodgers aren’t quite the same compared to years past, but they remain the team to beat in the NL West thus far. They still have star players at multiple positions, including right field and sometimes second base with superstar Mookie Betts.

Mookie has already solidified himself as a Hall of Famer and one of the best players in MLB history, and he’s not done yet. This is his fourth season as a Dodger, and he has already accomplished so much in his time with the Boys in Blue. The only thing missing from his resume as a Dodger is an NL MVP. He played at an MVP-type level in 2022, and MLB Hall of Famer, former Dodger, and current analyst Pedro Martinez believes Betts will bring home his second MVP award this season.

“I just have a hard time going against Mookie. Mookie is just the sign of consistency, and Mookie is already set in LA. I’ve seen it in Boston … and then I kept seeing another extraordinary year and he just keeps on doing it. He’s now settled in LA, he knows what he needs to do, he’s got paid. His family is already settled in LA. Mookie is about to have another monster season for the LA Dodgers.”

Pedro Martinez, TBS

Mookie is a safe bet to go with; he hits leadoff for the Dodgers, he remains a five-tool player for LA and he will look to continue that throughout his time in blue. Vegas oddsmakers sort of agree with the former Dodger as Vegas Insider has Betts with the third-best odds to win the NL MVP at +950 behind Braves superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. at +800 and Padres superstar Juan Soto with the best odds at +700.

You can’t judge an award race through six games, but Betts is getting the job done thus far, slashing .300/.440/.550 with a .990 OPS. When hot, we know what Mookie can accomplish, and we can’t wait to see when he’ll hit his stride. For the Dodgers’ sake, hopefully, it’s toward the end of the season heading into October.

Nonetheless, an MVP with the Boys in Blue would etch Mookie closer to solidifying himself as an all-time Dodger. Where do you view Mookie Betts in Dodger lore, Dodger fans? Let us know in the comments below.
