Mookie Betts on the Cusp of Impressive Accomplishment in Dodgers Home Opener

Mookie Betts has done everything for the Dodgers since he was acquired from the Boston Red Sox before the 2020 season. He helped lead them to their first World Series title since 1988 and has taken on different roles around the diamond whenever asked.

He has been the ultimate professional since he entered the league and this has carried him through his career. His tenure in baseball is far from over and Betts still has goals to accomplish.

Entering the new season, Betts has dedicated himself to being the best version of himself. After a poor postseason last year, he spent the offseason trying to work on making sure it never happens again.

Even with the new additions to the Dodgers lineup, Betts is staying in the leadoff spot. It’s where he is most effective and when he takes the field in the domestic home opener for Los Angeles next week, it will mark a cool accomplishment in his career.

“When Betts takes the field next Thursday for the Dodgers’ home opener it will be his 1,000th career start at the top of a lineup. This past Thursday in Seoul was his 1,000th game occupying the ?1 spot in an order. He entered as a pinch-hitter at the ?1 spot on Sept. 5, 2018.”

Per Cary Osborne of Dodgers Insider

Betts has been one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball throughout his career. He sets the tone for this Dodgers team each game and does so in the best way he knows how.

Having 1,000 career starts at the top of a lineup is impressive and something to celebrate. It means he has been tested over time and is still going strong.

He has been so dominant in the leadoff spot that Dodgers manager Dave Roberts compared him to Rickey Henderson last season. Los Angeles will need Betts to continue pushing his legacy at the leadoff spot forward this season, as the team looks to capture another World Series title.
