Mookie Betts Wants to Win Gold Glove at Shortstop for Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on a mission to win their eighth World Series as a franchise. They have as good a chance as anyone to win in 2024, and the expectation internally is that they will win multiple championships after a huge offseason spending spree.

Spring training has seen the Dodgers largely rise to their potential with little drama along the way. One exception: the move of superstar Mookie Betts to shortstop.

The everyday right fielder over his first four seasons in Los Angeles, Betts was supposed to be the Dodgers’ second baseman in 2024. Due to Gavin Lux’s ineffectiveness, Betts will be the shortstop for the team moving forward.

Betts’ stated goal was to win a Gold Glove award at second base. Now that he’s a shortstop, that goal hasn’t changed. The 31-year-old spoke to the media, including Juan Toribio of MLB.com, and said he wants to win a Gold Glove at shortstop.

Betts, a two-time World Series champion, is more than capable of achieving his goal. He is a natural athlete who looks comfortable in the infield. Not only does he look comfortable, Betts was drafted as a shortstop out of high school by the Boston Red Sox in 2011. He has an instinct for the position.

The Red Sox had little option but to move Betts to the outfield as a minor leaguer. To no one’s surprise, he made a name for himself out there. More than a decade later, it would surprise no one if he does the same at shortstop.
