Report: Dodgers Sign Chris Owings to Minor League Contract

The Dodgers added to their infield depth Thursday, signing veteran Chris Owings to a minor league contract according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:

Owings, 32, joins a list of non-roster infielders in the Dodgers’ major league camp that includes Trey Sweeney, Jonathan Arauz, Kevin Padlo, Austin Gauthier.

In parts of 11 major league seasons, Owings has seen time at shortstop, second base, third base, and all three outfield positions. He’s also pitched in three games in mop-up duty.

Dodger fans might remember Owings from his time in the Arizona Diamondbacks (2013-18) and Colorado Rockies (2020-21) organizations. He’s also appeared in games with the Kansas City Royals (2019), Boston Red Sox (2019), Baltimore Orioles (2022) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2023).

The South Carolina native is a career .239 hitter, with 37 home runs in 720 games.
