Reunion Between Kiké Hernández and Dodgers ‘Possible’ Says Insider From The Athletic

Utilityman Kiké Hernández was one of the more productive members of the 2023 Dodgers down the stretch of the season. After being re-acquired at the trade deadline, Hernández looked very similar to the player that he was before leaving LA after the 2020 season.

He spent two-and-a-half years with the Boston Red Sox but struggled mightily in the first half of last season. In 86 games played with the Red Sox, Hernández hit just .222 with six home runs and 22 runs batted in.

Once he got to the Dodgers, it looked as if a light bulb had turned back on for him. He played 54 games with L.A., hitting .262 with five home runs and 30 runs batted in.

Maybe it was being back in a comfortable setting. Or maybe it was due to him being placed in a loaded lineup. But no matter the reason, he looked like a very different player which has led many to believe that he could make his way back to the Dodgers this winter.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic has reported that it’s a possibility the two sides could see a reunion this offseason, further adding fuel to the fire.

“Another possibility for the Dodgers, who are seeking a right-handed utility/outfield bat: A reunion with free agent Kiké Hernández, who underwent double-hernia surgery on Oct. 24 but should be ready for spring training.”

Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic

Bringing Hernández back to the team would give the Dodgers’ front office some much-needed flexibility within the way that they construct the roster. His versatility to play multiple positions across the diamond and in the outfield is highly coveted, especially in Los Angeles.

However, it may not be easy to bring him back. MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand has reported that there are multiple playoff-caliber teams chasing Hernández, which could drive the price higher than the Dodgers’ front office is willing to go.

If the team were to bring Hernández back, it would generally be met with positivity by the fanbase, as he is loved in Los Angeles. Hernández is the perfect complimentary piece around the star talent that the Dodgers have and the hope is that the two sides can get a deal done for him to return.

  1. Kiki and CT3 strike me as very similar players, although last contract time CT3 made out much better, but my analytic devoid opinion says Kiki is the better player. However, CT3 I believe is under contract for another year or two so both of them at fair market price may not be a realistic option.

  2. Kike is a Fan Favorite and a productive bat and fielder . Kike must be re-signed and stay a Dodger , this is a No-Brainer . SIGN KIKE … !
