Shohei Ohtani Reacts to First Dodgers Home Run, Provides Health Update After Cactus League Debut
Shohei Ohtani wasted little time making his impact felt on the Dodgers.
In his first Cactus League game, Ohtani hit a two-run home run to the opposite field in his third and final at-bat of the day.
After the game, Ohtani spoke with reporters, and admitted he didn’t think the ball would get over the wall.
“I thought I hit it a little too high,” Ohtani said through his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara.
The ball ended up going out anyway, traveling 377 feet and exiting 102 mph off Ohtani’s bat.
Ohtani spoke about how he felt after his first live game action of the year.
“Definitely felt good at the plate, felt better each time I got up,” Ohtani said. “We’re trending in the right direction.”
Ohtani added that he was especially happy to come away from this game feeling as healthy as he was when he started it.
“Biggest thing is I was able to finish out the game without any problems.”
Ohtani had three at-bats on Tuesday, which all add up to the 50 minimum he’s trying to hit before Opening Day. He has more than enough time to get those at-bats, whether it be in Cactus League games or live batting practice.
Ohtani’s first Cactus League game as a member of the Dodgers is finally complete. It’s safe to assume Dodger fans can’t wait for his next appearance in the coming days.
Ohtani can’t wait to put on a show for the fans, too.
“I’m really happy I could make it back on time so I could play in front of the fans.”
The fans are happy too, Shohei.
