Shohei Ohtani Rumors: Dodgers Analyst Shares Wild Destination for Angels Superstar

The prize of the upcoming trade deadline is Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani. That is if the Halos and owner Arte Moreno decide to trade the two-way unicorn. Amid a terrible stretch of injuries and poor play, MLB pundits are believing more and more that the Angels will ultimately end up sending Ohtani away in a trade this August.

One Angels insider told DodgersNation.com’s Doug McKain recently that, yes, Shohei will be a Dodger. But on the direct opposite end of the spectrum, one former Dodger player and current broadcast has another team in mind in the Ohtani sweepstakes…

The San Francisco Giants.

Ok, we’ll all let that poison pass through us for a second…

Eric Karros, the Dodgers’ all time home run leader since the franchise moved to Los Angeles, serves as a team color analyst for Spectrum’s SportsNet LA. He also is a national analyst on FOX Sports. It was there where he shared his bold proclamation.

“He’s going to play in the postseason,” Karros said. “He has to play in the postseason. The Angels need to trade him if they don’t, they’re doing a disservice to the organization. Now you want me to take it a next step further. Who’s he going to be playing for? He’s going to be playing for the Giants. That’s who he’s going to be playing for.”

MLB on Fox

The idea of the Giants being in on a star of the caliber of Shohei Ohtani isn’t shocking. They currently own the third and final Wild Card position in the National League. The club also sits in third place in the NL West but just 2 games behind the Dodgers for the top spot — so they’re firmly in the playoff hunt. Moreover, they’re a team that has the financial capability to bring in someone like Ohtani. After all, they were in on Carlos Correa and even signed Arson Judge for about 8 minutes this past offseason. They were also in the hunt for Aaron Judge before he re-signed with the Yankees.

Whether the club has the prospect capital to get a deal done is a different story.

One club that certainly does is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who may jump at the opportunity to acquire Ohtani in a blockbuster deal this summer.

My two cents on this one: Eric Karros didn’t want to come off as a homer on national TV so he said the Giants.

The trade deadline is just over two weeks away.
